INTASC Standard #1: Learner Development
This standard is all about understanding how kids grow and learn, not just academically, but socially, emotionally, and more. It matters because every student is different, and knowing where they are developmentally helps me support them in ways that actually make sense for them. The artifacts I included show how I pay attention to those differences and try to create activities that meet students where they are: a Podcast Listening Journal that supports comprehension with options for different learning styles, a Student Progress Tracker that helps me monitor letter recognition and adjust instruction, and a Student Observation and Reflection Log that I used to reflect on student behavior, learning, and growth so I could keep improving my teaching.
Podcast Listening Journal: Supporting Comprehension Skills
To develop students’ listening and comprehension abilities, I used episodes from Little Stories for Tiny People followed by a listening journal. Students responded to prompts about the story’s characters, setting, plot, and their personal reactions. I differentiated the journals for various learning levels by offering both drawing and writing options. These journals helped me observe how narrative comprehension developed over time.

Student Progress Tracker: Monitoring Letter Recognition Development
For this artifact, I developed a Student Progress Tracker to monitor the development of letter recognition in my students. The tracker allowed me to document which letters each student could identify across several observations, noting their progress over time. I used this data to tailor my instruction to meet the individual needs of each student, offering extra support where needed or advancing students who had mastered the skill. This tool helped me track their progress in real time, ensuring I could respond quickly to any learning gaps.

Student Observation and Reflection Log: Continuous Assessment
I created a Student Observation and Reflection Log to track my observations of students during various learning activities. This log allowed me to document student behavior, engagement, and understanding. I used the log to identify patterns in student development and adjust my instruction to meet their needs, ensuring that each student received the appropriate level of support and challenge.
